Timbers U23's can't hold late lead, out of playoffs
A win turns into a disappointing late loss, Timbers U23's first season ends with 3-2 loss
The debut season for the Timbers U23 in the USL's Northwest Division of the Premier Development League came to a sudden and disappointing end on Thursday afternoon when the Timbers were unable to hold on to their 2-1 lead, and allowed two late goals by Seattle's Alex Chursky, and suddenly their season would end, and would also suffer their first home loss in their franchise history.
An early header goal by Portland's Josh Brown gave the Timbers an early 1-0 lead, but the Timbers did not mark Alex Chursky closely enough on a run into the Timbers box and he easily finished later in the half to level the score at 1-1. The Timbers retook the lead three minuters later when Ryan Youngblood finished a cross from Mac Hemmi for the 2-1 halftime lead.
A trip to the next round of the playoffs looked likely until what can only be described as an incredibly long advantage play-on was pulled back for a Seattle free kick, that would end with Chursky heading in the game-tying goal. And then just into stoppage time, Chursky would shock the U23's with a late game winner a bit against the run of play as the Timbers had looked more likely to re-take the lead, but the late lead had not held up and became a disappointing way to end their debut season in the PDL. The Timbers would outshoot Seattle 16-10 on the evening.

Home playoff secured with 5-0 win over Abbotsford
Timbers U23's will host Seattle Wolves Thursday at PGE Park
The Timbers U23's closd out their regular season tonight in their first season in the PDL tonight, as they hosted the Abbotsford Mariners at Lincoln High School. The Timbers knew they needed a win to secure a first round playoff game at home, after the Seattle Wolves beat this same Abbotsford team last night by a 1-0 score, but the Timbers didn't take long to put away the Mariners, as the Timbers put in four goals in the first half on the way to a 5-0 victory.
With the win, the Timbers secure second place in the PDL Northwest Division and will host Seattle in the first found of the PDL playoffs on Thursday at PGE Park at 2pm. This match will precede the Timbers First Division team hosting Puerto Rico on Thursday at 7pm.

An important weekend road trip
Timbers U23's get important wins in Spokane and Yakima
The Timbers U23's now sit comfortably in second place in the PDL Northwest Division after a 4-1 win over the Spokane Spiders on Friday night and a 4-2 win in Yakima on Saturday.
On Saturday night in Yakima, Ryan Youngblood had two more goals, making five for the weekend, and Jordan Crasilneck and Masaki Hemmi also scored as the Timbers rallied from an early 1-0 deficit for the 4-2 win, which secures a playoff spot in their first season. The Timbers can secure second place in the Northwest Division with a win next weekend against the Abbotsford Mariners on July 18 at Lincoln High School (which is just southeast of PGE Park).
Ryan Youngblood scored the first ever hat trick for the Timbers U23's on Friday, and Frankie Lopez had two assists while Masaki Hemmi recorded his first goal as the Timbers beat Spokane 4-1.

Ryan Youngblood is PDL Player of the Week
For his five-goal performance this past weekend, including a hat trick in Spokane on Friday, Timbers U23 forward Ryan Youngblood has been named Premier Development League Player of the Week. Congratulations to Ryan!
U23's battle first place Kitsap to 1-1 draw
Timbers U23's remain unbeaten at home on late Ryan Youngblood goal
The Timbers U23's battled the first place Kitsap Pumas on Saturday at Tualatin High School and after going down 1-0 on a first half goal by Kitsap's Matt Friesen, the Timbers would outshoot their opponents 10-2 in the second half, but Youngblood would score in stoppage time on an assist by Logan Emory to leave the Timbers unbeaten at home this season, and deny the Pumas, one of four Professional PDL teams, a chance to clinch the division. The U23's are currently in second place in the Northwest Division, 7 points behind Kitsap, and are unlikely to catch them with only 3 games remaining. But the teams could possibly meet in the playoffs as the top 3 teams in each division make the playoffs, with the winner of #2 vs #3 (currently the Seattle Wolves, another expansion team) playing #1, though the Cascade Surge from Salem are currently only three points out of a playoff position.
There was also a late altercation, with accounts of who started it varying depending on which side they support, but resulted in two ejections for the Timbers (Leach and Josh Brown) and an ejection and two yellows for Kitsap.
The Timbers U23's finish their season by playing the bottom three teams in the Northwest Division, with games at Yakima and Spokane next weekend before finishing up with a game against Abbotsford at Lincoln High School on the 18th.

Warner strikes late, again
Collen Warner scores late for 2nd week in a row as Timbers top Vancouver 1-0
Coming off a disappointing loss in Salem on Friday, the Timbers U23's looked to recover when they hosted the Vancovuer Whitecaps Residency at PGE Park on Sunday. The Timbers defeated the Whitecaps earlier this month by a 2-0 score on the road, and were looking to solidify themselves in their case for a PDL playoff spot, and after 88 minutes of scoreless football, for the second Sunday in a row, it was Collen Warner who came through with the game-winner, this time after stealing the ball from a Whitecaps defender just inside the Vancouver box, then blasting in the only goal of the match for the 1-0 victory.

No surge in Salem
Timbers fall 2-0 to Cascade Surge
The Timbers U23's were coming off two strong wins as they headed into their second match against their state rivals, having beaten them 4-2 in Vancouver, Washington on May 30. But a PK and a defensive mistake gave the Surge all they would need, and the U23's fall to 7-3-1 with the loss. The U23's are still in 3rd place, 4 points out of first, and 1 point out of second.

Collen out a Timbers win
Collen Warner's late goal the game winner, 4-3 over Tacoma
After breaking a home unbeaten streak for the Tacoma Tide earlier this season, the Timbers U23's hosted the Tide Sunday at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove. After a wild first half that saw 3 goals for each team, the second half was much more defensive and the only goal would be a 73rd minute strike by Collen Warner, and the U23's remain undefeated at home this season, and still tied for 2nd place in the PDL Northwest division.

2-0 to the Rose City
U23s mirror USL1 win from two weeks ago, 2-0 over the 'Caps
After a 1-0 loss in Bremerton last weekend, the Timbers U23's travelled north to Vancouver to take on the Whitecaps Residency team, which like the U23's, are an amateur team linked to their USL-1 parents. And the U23 squad matched the 2-0 win the senior team had over the Whitecaps on May 30 with a 2-0 win of their own, with Jordan Crasilneck getting both goals, both on assists from Ryan Youngblood. The U23's are now tied for second place in the PDL Northwest Division with the Seattle Wolves, one point behind the Kitsap Pumas, who have a game in-hand on both second place teams.

Timbers fall 1-0 to Kitsap Pumas in battle for first place
After a win in Victoria the night before, the Timbers U23's battled the Kitsap Pumas for first place in Bemerton on Saturday. The only goal of the match would happen just after Timbers defender Daniel Leach was given a straight red in the 23rd minute, and Kitsap's Matt Friesen converted the free kick for the game's only goal. The 10-man Timbers held off the Pumas for the remainder of the match, but could never find the net and would lose 1-0.

First road win, but out of the Cup
After a loss in Tukwila on Wednesday, the Timbers U23's travelled to Tacoma to take on the Tide in their final US Open Cup Qualifying match, needing a win and a positive result for the Cascade Surge against the Kitsap Pumas. The Timbers took care of their end of the deal, doing what no team had done in over three years as they took down the Tide at home 1-0 on a goal just after the opening kickoff by Matt Van Houten whe the Timbers midfielder took advantage of a Tacoma defensive mistake.
The Tide featured former Timber Greg Howes and other former USL First Division players Leighton O'Brien and Nik Besagno. The win was not enough to keep their Open Cup hopes alive though as the Pumas defeated the Surge 3-0 to take the Northwest Division USOC spot.
Timbers can't hold lead, drop first road game
After seven points in their first three matches at home, on two wins and a draw, the Timbers took an early 1-0 lead in Tukwila on a Daniel Leach goal, but the Seattle wolves would get three goals by forward Casey Cunningham on just five total team shots for a 3-1 win. The Timbesr U23's now move on former Timbers forward Greg Howes' Tacoma Tide on Saturday.
Eight is more than enough
Timbers net four on either side of halftime for 8-2 blowout of Yakima
After a four goal explosion against Spokane on Friday night, the Timbers doubled the feat on Saturday as seven different players scored in another dominating victory, this time 8-2 over the Yakima Reds. Former Timbesr USL1 defender Josh Brown scored early, and the Timbers never looked back with Brent Richards scoring twice. With the victory, the Timbers U23 side is in good position to advance to the next round of the US Open Cup as both tonight's match and the Friday Spokane match were Open Cup qualifiers.
Total domination
Timbers U23's crush Spokane 4-0 at PGE Park opener
After opening their first campaign with a last minute draw in Beaverton last weekend, the Timbers U23 team made no mistake of the result in their first-ever match at PGE Park, as they would outshoot the spiders 34-3 and end up routing the visitors by a 4-0 score. Warren Ukah, a former Atlanta Silverback who had been training with the Timbers USL-1 team, scored twice. Former USL-1 Timbers midfielder Miguel Guante also added a goal, and Mutanda Kwesele converted a penalty for the final goal.
The Timbers PDL side plays again at PGE Park at 7pm on Saturday, against former Timber Jake Sagare and the Yakima Reds.

| Portland is "Soccer City USA" |
Portland was known as "Soccer City USA" during the heyday of the Timbers in the 1970's, and has maintained that reputation, even without a professional team calling the city home for several years. After a US National Team 1-0 victory over Costa Rica at Civic Stadium in 1997, the players described the fans as the best the US National Team had ever seen. That excitement returned to Portland in 2001 as the newest member of the A-League, the Portland Timbers, had the 2nd highest attendance in the league, had two crowds over 11,000, and advanced to the second round of the playoffs in their first year.
