Freshman defender Heath Pearce had a goal and an assist Saturday as #16 Portland beat Oregon State 2-0 in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Men’s College Cup soccer tournament.

Pilots clinch West Coast Conference title
Alejandro Salazar and Nate Jaqua combined on a second-half goal Sunday, as #18 Portland beat Gonzaga 1-0 to win its first outright West Coast Conference title since 1988. Portland (12-5-1/5-1-0), needed a tie or win vs. Gonzaga to win the WCC title outright after Santa Clara beat Loyola Marymount 3-0 on Saturday night.

The Concordia men's soccer team allowed two goals off costly free kicks that allowed the Canadian team to hold on for a 2-0 win over the Cavaliers in a match played on a muddy pitch at Concordia University.

The Concordia men's soccer team advanced to the final of the Region I men's championship with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Westminster College today in Portland.

The #3-seeded Cavaliers will face #2-seed Westminster College on Friday at 11:00 am. The Concordia men's soccer team is ready to host the 2002 NAIA Region I tournament, Friday and Saturday of this week at Concordia.

Alumni strike twice in 2-0 win over current Pilots
Chicago Fire player Kelly Gray and Seattle Sounder Darren Sawatzky each scored twice as the University of Portland Alumni topped the current squad by a 2-0 score in a match played today at Merlo Field. The Alumni team played a total of 24 different players during the match while the current Pilots team played mostly reserves, and only substituted one player during the match.

Pilots can't find net in 2-0 loss to Dons
The twelfth-ranked University of Portland men's team took on the San Francisco Dons today at Merlo Field. Despite outshooting the Dons 18-12, the Pilots were unable to find the back of the net, and lost 2-0 to the Dons for their first West Coast Conference loss of the year. The Pilots gave up a goal in the 50th minute to Chris Schwarze after a scramble in front of the net. A red card on goakeeper Curtis Spiteri in the 66th minute allowed the Dons to widen the margin to 2-0 on a Ben Stuart penalty kick. Playing a man down, the Pilots were unable to pull closer and end up on the short end of the 2-0 score.
